As we’ve all spent so much time at home since the start of the pandemic, it’s not surprising we watch a lot of television and movies to keep us entertained and, perhaps, distracted from the world around us; I know I have. What if we could use entertainment for building our faith instead?

With that in mind, I’m thrilled to tell you once more about a dramatic new look at the life and ministry of Jesus: The Chosen, a television series based on the life of Christ, created, directed and co-written by American filmmaker Dallas Jenkins. The creators of this multi-season series sought to shape a fresh perspective of Jesus through the eyes of people who met him.

The Chosen is the number one crowdfunded media project of all time and the first multi-season show about the life of Jesus Christ and his disciples. Season two is now available, just in time to give to a loved one as a faith-building Christmas gift.

Here’s the second season’s official synopsis: “The word is spreading that Jesus is the Messiah. Increased fame brings growing crowds, new disciples and more miracles. It also brings trouble. Mary is confronted with old demons. The tension between Simon and Matthew explodes. James and John battle their prejudices and fiery tempers. But they all continue to passionately pursue the man they don’t always understand but will always follow. Come and see season two of the global phenomenon that is changing tens of millions of people with each new episode.”

This production is a breath of fresh air when it comes to theatrical portrayals of Jesus’ life and ministry. Everything from the production design to the camera work to the dialogue has a contemporary feel. The multi-ethnic cast and broadly Mediterranean look and sound of the characters bring a level of authenticity to the production. The story is compelling and the characters are multi-dimensional rather than sanitized for the sake of family-friendly entertainment.

While a television series will never replace Scripture, The Chosen is a refreshing and encouraging look at the life and ministry of our Lord and Saviour, and if you have a chance to watch it, I hope it will inspire your faith.

Don’t wait until the last minute! Order season two today and give the gift of an unforgettable viewing experience to that special someone in your life.
