At Focus on the Family Canada, we get calls every day from people seeking help for the unique challenges they’re facing. One of the ways we support them is through our free, one-time phone consultation with our in-house counsellors. I’m honoured to work alongside these gifted professionals as they listen to big questions and deep hurts and, in return, offer compassion and biblical truth to our callers.

In addition, I’m happy to share these new video series, featuring three of our own counsellors at Focus on the Family Canada who are here to speak with you and give godly counsel. They each explore one of the most common reasons Canadian Christians reach out for guidance.

Understanding Anxiety
I feel anxious at times just like everyone else, and there are situations that can cause fear to strike our hearts. But what makes anxiety different? In this six-part series, our counsellor Jenn Hall explains what anxiety looks like to help you better understand the role it may be playing in your life or the life of a loved one. Jenn will walk you through what anxiety is, the various disorders, how anxiety impacts the body, mind and spirit, and finding a hope-filled path forward.

Understanding Depression
Sometimes we just don’t feel okay and can’t articulate why. Frequently the underlying cause of this feeling is depression. While depression is often referred to as “the common cold of mental health,” many people don’t recognize that what they’re feeling is depression. It can go undiagnosed since it looks different for each person. In this six-part series, our counsellor Jennifer Antonsen will walk you through what depression is, signs and symptoms, different forms of treatment, case studies of a new mom and a middle-aged man, and finding a hope-filled path forward.

The Problem with Pornography
One of the leading concerns from our callers is pornography – either those who struggle with consuming it or those who discovered their spouse, or even their child, has been viewing it. In this five-part series, Focus on the Family Canada counsellor Luke Campbell explains why the difficult topic of pornography is a necessary conversation in Christian circles, how pornography impacts our relationships and faith, and how stepping into the discomfort of confession brings healing and freedom from its influences.
