Goodnight blessings: Making the most of bedtime discussions

How often do you talk to your kids? I don’t mean the routine, plan-as-you-go discussions about who should empty the dishwasher and who’s going where after school. I mean the discussions that really matter: the deeper, life-giving conversations that consistently point your child to God as their inseparable Father and their source of hope and security.

A young boy in our community – grade-school age – recently took his own life. I have a hard time understanding how a child that age has the maturity level to contemplate suicide. How can I talk to my own grade-school children about this?

A cry in the night: Dealing with nightmares, night terrors and more

Cara and Rob were out of bed in an instant, the couple’s feet hitting the floor almost simultaneously. In the room across the hall, their six-year-old had suddenly begun shrieking in fright. Snapping on the light, Cara and Rob found their daughter sitting up in bed, her eyes fixed on the far wall.

My child can't focus in school: Could it be ADHD?

Our child is having trouble focusing in school. We don't think this is ADHD because she can sit for hours in front of the computer or the television without being distracted. Is this kind of behaviour common among kids in the elementary grades? Should we be worried?
