Financial accountability

Overview

Focus on the Family Canada takes the stewardship of the resources God gives us very seriously. We budget and plan our activities carefully and work closely with our board of directors to ensure we are utilizing our funds and other resources wisely and to maximize our impact.

Our financials are reviewed monthly by our board of directors and our financial statements are audited annually by independent public auditors. We are also members of the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities and qualify for their financial seal of approval.

We are committed to regularly informing our donors of key projects progress and the impact their donations are making by reporting throughout the year.

Here are some ways we made an impact in 2022:

  • Helped more than 110,300 families with Biblically based educational resources and advice.
  • Equipped more than 67,000 people to grow in their faith.
  • Inspired more than 38,400 married couples to take action and strengthen their relationship through our marriage programs.

  • Supported more than 16,700 people to reach out, serve, and make a positive difference in their local community.
  • More than 14,700 marriages in crisis have seen significant growth and improvement towards saving their marriage.
  • Helped an estimated 11,300 people decide to follow Jesus Christ.

Ethical Standards

We are stewards of all the resources God entrusts to us and we’re accountable to our ministry partners, and to God, for how we use all that we receive.

We are certified members of the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities (CCCC), an independent standards-setting organization. We are re-accredited every year and we closely adhere to the CCCC Standards of Organizational Integrity and Accountability.

As a CCCC-certified charity, we agree to abide by their Standards of Accountability.

Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the charitable and non-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  • To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  • To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  • To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
  • To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  • To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  • To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  • To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  • To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  • To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  • To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

Integrity in Fundraising

Our six principles for integrity in fundraising are:

  1. This ministry belongs to God. As his stewards, we’re accountable to his objectives, interests and concerns.
  2. The future of God’s work doesn’t depend on the of this organization. But as long as he supplies the means, we will serve others in his name.
  3. We’ll be honest about our financial needs and fundraise in a respectful manner.
  4. We will do our best to operate the ministry without a deficit. If unforeseen expenses arise and we have to borrow, we will do our best to repay the loan quickly.
  5. You’ll receive clear and understandable tax receipts.
  6. We request that you support the work of your own local church first, before you contribute to Focus on the Family Canada.

These guidelines are based upon a firm conviction that everything we are and everything we have comes to us by the grace of God. If we remain faithful, we’re confident that the Lord will sustain us while his purposes for this ministry endure.

Privacy

We respect your privacy and protect your personal information by adhering to all applicable legislative requirements with respect to protecting privacy. We do not rent, sell or trade our mailing lists. For more detailed information, please see our privacy policy.
