Remembering Ravi Zacharias
I remember the first time I heard Ravi Zacharias speak. I was listening to an episode of the Focus on the Family Broadcast entitled “I, Isaac, Take You, Rebekah.” It was a moving and inspirational message on marriage that struck a chord in my heart.
Ravi had a remarkable way of doing that when he spoke, stimulating your mind with insights and wisdom, while stirring your heart with passion and conviction. He blessed so many around the world, courageously speaking truth and pointing them to “the Way, the Truth and the Life.” I will miss Ravi, but I will never forget the words he shared or the life he lived that inspired me and so many Canadians.
Born in India in 1946, Ravi gave his heart to Christ while sitting in a hospital bed recovering from an attempted suicide. Gripped by the words of Jesus in John 14:6, Ravi dedicated his life to presenting and defending the truth of Christ that others might also find life in him.
Ravi was only 20 when he moved with his family to Canada, where he would meet his wife, Margie (Margaret), and complete his first undergraduate degree at Ontario Bible College (now Tyndale College and Seminary). In 1984, he founded Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) in Atlanta, Georgia, a ministry that has grown around the world and inspired millions with the truths and teaching of Jesus Christ.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Margie, her three children, their families, along with Ravi’s family and the many who knew and loved him. We have lost a remarkable man of God, but we know he is now with the Lord he loves.
