When friends have an aggressive preschooler

Our best friends have a preschooler about the same age as our children. This boy is habitually mean and aggressive around our kids. We try to keep visits short and supervised, but inevitably one of our children ends up getting kicked or whacked. How do we put a stop to this without offending our friends?

The scary movie and its sequel, sleeplessness

A couple of weeks ago we checked out a “kids’ movie” from our library that turned out to be very scary. Ever since then our preschooler has been hysterical at bedtime.

Defiant? Or simply too young to understand?

I'm a brand-new, first-time parent, and since I have a clean slate to work with, I'd like to get off to good start. As you can imagine, I'm anxious to do the best and most efficient job possible of raising my child. What are your thoughts on discipline in the early childhood years? How soon should I begin disciplining in earnest?
