PARENTING MKS

Shari, an MK who struggled with moving to the mission field when she was eight-years-old, shares the following:

"I must acknowledge the tremendous impact of my parents, who, though called to a demanding, full-time ministry as missionaries, never once made me feel like I was second fiddle. They did all they could to help me adjust to our new life, provided as normal a life as possible and made it very clear that their family came first - even if it meant leaving it all to return to North America. I've seen first-hand the devastation that can explode in a missionary family when the parents put too high a priority on the work they have been called to and not enough emphasis on the family God has blessed them with. I'm so grateful that my parents understood this delicate balance."

Missionary Kids*
(A Focus on the Family broadcast CD)
On average, missionary kids move eight times in 18 years. Relocating often means adjusting to a new culture, even when returning to Canada. These transitions can be challenging, if not downright stressful. Listen in as David Pollock illuminates the unique struggles these children face.

But Mom, I Don't Want to Move!*
Susan Miller gives mothers practical guidance for making a smooth transition to a new home, school and community. (Please note that this book is not written specifically for missionary families.)

Why Christian Kids Rebel: Trading Heartache for Hope*
Few things in life are as painful as having your Christian child rebel against your spiritual lifestyle. In this book by Dr. Tim Kimmel, discover how timid reactions to moral crises and lack of authenticity could be the very things that repel children from our faith – and what you can do about it.

801 Questions Kids Ask About God*
Kids ask amazing, often difficult, questions about God, faith and the Bible. The thoughtful answers within the pages of this valuable resource will not leave you at a loss for words. A compilation of the best of the 101 Questions Kids Ask series, this extensive and fun reference is a great tool for passing on a Christian legacy.
