While
vacationing this summer I had the opportunity
to attend the worship service of the church that
I grew up in. The pastor’s words were genuine
and real; his words in the message were refreshing
to my soul. It was like sipping a cool drink on
a hot day. When the service ended, I briefly shared
with Pastor Matt how I much I appreciated his message.
There
have been many times in my life when a pastor
has preached convicting, encouraging, or inspiring
messages. Many times I have received God’s
word spoken directly to me through my pastor- and
yet I didn’t always have the courage to tell
him how much I had needed and benefited from his
words.
Pastor, you too have encouraged individuals many
times without knowing it or being thanked for it.
Through words in a sermon, a heartfelt smile or
hug, a visit, or your example of a genuine faith
in Jesus Christ, you have helped others to love
and know God.
As we approach Clergy Appreciation Month (October),
I want to take a moment to thank you for your service
to your church, your congregation members, and
the community at large. Until you reach heaven
you will never fully know how your life has drawn
others to the Lord.
Ray
Boltz has written a song titled “Thank
You.” His words describe a Christian who
has entered heaven and is learning how his faithful
life made an eternal difference. Here are some
of the lyrics*:
One by one they came
Far as the eyes could see
Each life somehow touched
By your generosity
Little things that you had done
Sacrifices made
Unnoticed on the earth
In heaven now proclaimed
And I know up in heaven
You’re not supposed to cry
But I am almost sure
There were tears in your eyes
As Jesus took your hand
And you stood before the Lord
He said “My child look around you
For great is your reward.”
CHORUS
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am a life that was changed
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am so glad you gave
Pastor, thank you for giving to the Lord. We, as
individuals and as the church, are eternally
impacted. We are so glad that you give.
